HRBS are fixed fee accountants.
Keith Silman, our MD and driving force, is highly experienced and after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen in 1990, has had senior manager/director roles in regional and international accountancy practices, a well-known high-street ladies fashion retail group, multi-million pound SMEs and has also been an EU approved mentor/advisor to Yorkshire businesses. His approach is hands-on and he will help you understand how to run your business and take control of its (and your) future ... and, as an added bonus, save tax and NIC whilst you do so. Every week we have new clients come to us because they are fed up with their old accountants. Common complaints are that they were passed to an inexperienced, unqualified junior clerk, or the person responsible for their accounts changed every year. They have chosen HRBS for better pro-active advice, personal service and as an added benefit, lower fees (over 30% lower for some). Our offices are based in rural Yorkshire and by using email and online services wherever possible we save money and pass these cost savings onto our clients, as well as being more environmentally friendly, which benefits everyone. Click here for client testimonials (pdf opens in new window). Our fees are very competitive. All accounting and taxation work is done by a qualified and highly experienced accountant, and not delegated to unqualified staff nor subcontracted as is increasingly the case with many accounting practices. You are therefore guaranteed a consistent, personal service from an accountant who takes an interest in you and your business.
Our goal is to provide a high quality service at a reasonable price, within budget and without any surprises. We introduced fixed fees and a service menu several years ago as a natural extension of our support to our clients. There are no hidden extras in our pricing structure and we agree all fees in advance.

We are authorised by HMRC to provide the full range of accounting, taxation, payroll and company formation services.
In 2007, HMRC (formerly Inland Revenue and HM Customs & Excise) introduced Money Laundering Regulations that mean only authorised businesses such as ourselves can legally provide accounting, book-keeping, payroll, VAT, company formation, company secretarial and registered office services. Unlike many other accountants, we want to support our clients and welcome regular contact. The monthly/quarterly review of your business and how it is performing lets us suggest areas where you may cut costs (for example free banking), improve profitability and also keep up with tax and VAT laws. For our many limited company owner-director clients we regularly review the most tax effective way of extracting profits from the business.Regular reviews of your accounting records saves us time when preparing your year end accounts. Our investment in reviewing your accounts saves you money!

If you are not getting the service you want from your current accountant ... change! - Did not help in forming PAYE scheme and suggest ways of minimising tax and National Insurance and obtaining tax free online filing incentive (£75.00 for 2009/09).
- Did not use computerised accounting systems.
- Did not monitor when VAT registration was needed.
- Did not contact them during the year.
- Did not suggest how to extract profits from their company in a tax efficient way.
- Did not suggest preparing management accounts.
- Were not pro-active.
- Were not interested!
- Used Juniors and/or unqualified staff.
- Account handler changed and did not know anything about the business.
- Did not know about VAT and Adwords [reverse charge legislation].
